Johnny Be Good

Today is Ching Ming Festival. Traditionally, Chinese visit the graves to pay our respect to our ancestors on this day. Here in Hong Kong, usually our border crossings to Mainland China would be packed with travelers. However, since the SARS hit, this year the border crossings are not congested like previous years.

The Government of the HKSAR has announced warnings for local citizens not to travel today for our festival chores in order to avoid further spreading of the virus.

Some people never listen. Their reasons being, paying respect to the ancestors on this day is simply a “must do”. I beg to disagree.

Respects come from the heart, not from the act. If we have the heart, we would respect our ancestors any day and everyday. I doubt any of our ancestors would have wanted to put us in a dangerous situation and get mad at us for not acting out the chores. I am sure my grandparents are glad that I stayed home today and remembering them this day and every other day in the rest of my life. In fact, knowing my grandparents so well, I am sure they would not have let us go through such an ordeal.

Sissies on the Run

Former Formula One World Champion Jacques Villeneuve, current racing for team BAR-Honda, called some of his rivals sissies when some of them tried to stop Friday’s Qualify session due to torrential rain.

I agree with Jacques.

The Sweet Kind

One of the major differences between the cinemas in North America and Hong Kong is their popcorn. In Canada at least, every cinema that I had been to had the salty kind of popcorn with butter; while here in Hong Kong, we have the sweet kind in caramel. When I was in Canada, I longed for the sweet kind. Not that I dislike the salty kind though. Poppycock, the original flavor, is the closest, but very expensive alternative, sweet kind that one could find in North America.

Apacer Disc Steno CP100

This is the second product of its kind that I have seen so far. (The first was this) I’ve failed to see the usefulness for such a device. At its MSLP of USD$299.95, one can buy two 512MB CF and one 256MB CF, or one 512MB and 256MB CF with a 20MB 20GB X’s Drive.

A single CD-ROM disc only holds 650-700MB of data, which is just enough for one 512MB plus one 128MB memory card full of data. To bring such a large device and a whole bunch of empty discs on the road is simply cumbersome. If it were of DVD+/-R kind, than at least it could have hold 4.7GB’s of data.
