Boy! What a race!
After the FIA has implemented new rules this session for the Formula One race, nothing is as it used to be; and for the better.
Today’s race at “lake” Interlagos Brasil was one of the most dramatic, if not the most, in Formula One history. Many excellent overtakings took place. The track has been so wet from the rain that one of the corners has become a grave-yard for some 5 or more cars, even for Michael. The safety car was called in 5 times through out the race.
Luck has once again defied Rubens from his home track win after his car failed during his lead of the race.
While Fisichella made an excellent move and passed the leader Raikkonen, the race was stopped due to a major accident by Webber and, then third place’s, Alonso who took a big hit into Webber’s debris some 20 seconds later and totaled his car and sustained a leg injury.
Team Jordan thought they had won the race when Fisichella’s car engine virtually exploded with fire after it has been parked at the pit. However, page 17 of the rule book has it that Raikkonen, who was the leader at the end of the two laps prior to the red flag, was the winner. Alonso was declared third, behind Fisichella; but was unable to take the podium in person.
The entire race was simply spectacular.
As for safety issues, it is the new rule which restricted every team to have only one kind of wet tires that can be used for the entire race weekend that might have caused the hazards if anything, since just about every team only had intermediate tires for the extremely wet track. This rule certainly needs a good look into.
WhaUSay?!
