Quit Your Whining, Coulthard!

McLaren driver David “cry baby” Coulthard was at it again. This time at Interlagos, Brazil. The race was stopped abruptly when Alonso hit the debris from Webber’s car and led to a major crash himself. However, the rule book stated that the result is to be taken at the finish line 2 laps before the red flag was raised, which was exactly where the then leading driver Coulthard, who had just turned off to the pit for a refuel. Had he continued and passed the finish line, and take his pit stop just one lap later, he would have won the race instead of his teammate Raikkonen.

As it is, Coulthard was classified 4th at Interlagos.

Coulthard later went on to say this after his boss Ron Dennis had praised the sportsmanship of Team Jordan when they thought their driver Fisichella had won.

Spaghetti

A while back, a friend, Sam posted a question on cooking packaged dried Spaghetti. He asked why it took so much longer to cook Spaghetti than the instructed cooking time printed on the package.

There are several different kind of Spaghetti. One is homemade or fresh. As they are freshly made, they are the softest and therefore take the least time to cook. Another is paper bag packaged. They are of the dried type but still relatively fresh, so they take just a little longer to cook than fresh ones. Last but not least, plastic sealed packaged type. They are the driest and thus require a lot longer to cook than other kinds. The drier or the longer they have been dried, the longer it takes to cook. I would ignore the instructed time and just cook them al Dente.

Fresh does not mean the best. The different freshness, or dryness, of the different kinds simply have different textures. The drier ones are tougher and the fresher ones are a lot softer. It is entirely up to your own personal preference of these different textures.

To cook Spaghetti or any other kind of pasta, boil a large pot of water, add salt and then the pasta to the pot. Do not add oil to the pot, and do not cold bath the pasta when done. Have the sauce ready, cook the pasta just before you eat, and then add the sauce to the pasta as soon as you drained the water right after it has been cooked.

Personally, I prefer Capellini over Spaghetti. They are finer than Linguine which is finer than Spaghetti, but slightly thicker than Angel Hair.

Here is a simple recipe I made up just the other day…

Depression

I do not know much about the sickness Depression. I fear that local pop star / actor Leslie Cheung’s Depression that led to his suicide may send a false signal to other sever Depression patients - if a person has so much fame, fortune, and everything in life that could have lived for would choose to end it so abruptly, what more is there for the ordinary…

I beg you all to see the real point.

What good did Leslie’s death do, except perhaps made the floral business thrived temporarily in such financially difficult times for everyone else? People have lost a dear family member, a dear friend, and a multi-talented superstar; and Leslie himself has lost just about everything he had worked so hard for. All there is left for him is just his name.

Loss is all there is.

It may not seem much to live for at times. It may have seemed that way to Leslie at the time he was about to jump off the building. However, everything and all the reasons to live for turned out afterwards - from all over the world; and there, everyone should see he’s, is so infinitely much more to live for. Unfortunately, it is too late.

Sadness feels sad only when we choose to feel that way. In life, many many sadnesses come and go; but the best part of sadness is, it’ll go away as soon as we stop thinking about it. When you feel despair, choose to do something else… do another line of work, see other people, pick-up a new hobby, read some new books, watch some new movies…. cook. Cook some tasty food that you like. Cooking for oneself is truly a self fulfilling and satisfying experience, because only you yourself know exactly what your tastes are.

So go on! Go do something good and cheerful! We all love a nice cheerful person! The more cheerful you are, the more love you’d feel; and hence, the more you’d find to live for.
