Fujitsu P5010 Varients

Apparently, there are a number of model variations in the Fujitsu P5000 series notebook computer. I reported and bought the P5010, which is local’s current model.

In Canada, other than the P5010, there is a P5010D which is essentially a P5010 with 802.11b as well as 802.11g wireless LAN. In the US, the model number is simply P5000 and P5000D. Seems like they are just US versions of the Canadian ones.

There is yet another model, FMV LT90D, which is supposedly parallel imported from Japan to Hong Kong that has a black casing and keyboard instead of silver, a 60GB harddisk and a DVD-RW drive instead. However, I could not find this model in the Fujitsu Japan website though.

The P5010 having a swappable drive bay, it would not be a problem obtaining a DVD-RW or any future drives. Harddisks are easily upgradable anytime. I doubt if I could have the wireless LAN upgraded to 802.11g though, but there is always the less elegant PCMCIA card.

An Old Master

That’s Old Master Q.

Don’t Get Angry, Get Witty

Two days ago, I explained to Alec that within the 4 to 4-1/2 hours between his got home from school and my got home from work, that’s ample time for him to finish his lunch, homework, and studying for dictation if any. I said when I got home from work, he should be studying and then playing instead of still doing homework. I said I want him to have time to play everyday so he must have his homework finished by the time I got home.

Yesterday evening when I came home from work, Alec was sitting in front of the TV and a set of Monopoly on the floor and he was playing with the Monopoly money. When he saw me, he asked me if I could guess what he was playing. I replied with a smile by asking him if he had finished his home work. He smiled and repeated his question. So I said, “I guess you are not playing at all, did I guess it right?”. He thought for about 5 seconds and said, “that’s exactly right, you’ve guessed it!”, and then he went back to his room to finish off his homework right away.

Sunday’s Plan

I first reported this and then this on my recent experience with Sunday. As it turns out, their billing computer has a few days’ delay and did show a 6.8MB of GPRS access within the first 2 hours after my initial activation of the service afterall. The bill shows some HKD$250.00 for that usage.

I called back Sunday’s customer service and they had agreed to my suggestion of charging me the $38 unlimited usage package just for that single day, as it was the natural last day of the billing month and it was my negligent for not making sure I called the right number for the activation in the first place; and then, starting with another $38 unlimited usage for the following month starting the next day. So it turns out alright for me.

I would like to suggest Sunday that they should merge the two phone numbers into one for their GPRS service activation, and within that one number letting subscribers select the two different service plans.

There was another small problem.

As they set to reduce the charges to my service plan, they had the old charge plan stopped at 0000 hours and then activated the new charge plan at 2400 hours. What they did for that 24 hours in between was a prorata. So instead of my usual 1200+800 minute/month plan, I had a 40+ min/day plan for that 24 hours! That resulted an extra charge for the over dialing of HKD$56.00! I didn’t want to bother with another charge adjustment as I did get away easy for the GPRS deal. However, I did tell their CS rep to reflect my objection to the company since it was their suggestion to reduce the charges in the first place; and if it were some sort of technical difficulties on their part that they couldn’t make an uninterrupted change of charge plans, then it would be their own problem and it shouldn’t have put on the shoulders of the customer, as we had a monthly plan agreement and no daily plan was ever suggested nor agreed upon.
