In response to the government’s plan to increase the deduction amount of drivers’ points for those who run red lights in order to reduce traffic accidents, LEGCO member Chan Wai Yip have reserves to the plan explaining that any rules that potentially affect professional drivers should be considered much more carefully.

Hey, simply DON’T run any red lights and no amount of penalty would affect anyone. I’d say let’s increase the cash penalty to HKD$10,000 for each offend as well to really slam down on reckless drivers, professional or otherwise.

About six months ago ago I got snapped running a red light in Yeun Long, right outside the Western Rail station. The spot wasn’t an intersection, and previously there were no traffic light there. I didn’t see the traffic light (probably obstructed) until I was right in front of it, and as it was safe to drive on I did. I personally would be extremely annoyed if I had to pay a penalty of HK$10K.

I am starting to think that the Honourable Chan Wai Yip is full of it. Careless and reckless drivers should have no business driving professionally.

Ah yes. That brings another problem. Those who planted hidden signs and traffic lights should be shot.

Like the Nam Sang Wai road sign which is located in between the two roads about 50m after the entrance to the first road and about 150m before the entrance to the second road with no further smaller signs or even road name signs either. One could drive through the two entrance several times and still wouldn’t be about to figure out how to get there without someone who has actually been there and pointed them out.

Another example is the Dai Tong exit sign on Tuen Muen Highway East bound. The road comes to big left turn so the exit is not visible until you have reach it and the road sign is planted right after the exit so you can’t see it until you have gone passed the exit.
