Don’t fix it!
Got the Powerbook, everything was hunkydorry with it.
Since my 60GB 2.5″HD was stupidly formated in NTFS and not FAT32 which can’t be used anywhere except under WinDO$, and that I have loaded it with photos already, I went ahead and got an 80GB 2.5″ HD with an USB2.0/Firewire case figured I could use it anywhere just plug and play. NOT! It wouldn’t Firewire on my PB even with the extra USB power link attached to it. Apparently, the newer PB has less power coming out of its ports as the Firewire on Tin’s 15″ TiBook worked, but not Ah Leung’s 15″ PB either. The double wired USB solution is simply not elegant. I was told that the Momobay CX-2 that was used to demo my PB works. And it was a single Firewire hook up. Should have called the shop before I made that purchase.
Found a used Tungsten C for HKD$1750 that looked very tidy. Love the form factor and have out grown that silly built-in cam on my Sony without Wi-Fi which a CF Wi-Fi card would have cost HKD$1100. So I bought the TC figured I could give Alec my Sony although I would miss the voice recording feature on the Sony. Luck strikes (OUT) again when I discovered the Wi-Fi on the TC does not work. The shop is having it looked at and I am out $1750.
While figuring a network printing solution, I found a Level One print server which has 2 USB ports that supports scanning from multipurpose printers as well as just about any USB devices like sharing card readers or even HDs! Hack, that’s a file server to boot! I figure I might as well get my own printer working with it first before I look further for the laser printer. The setup was like impossible with the hidden (non-existing) HP printer driver. A search on the HP home page reviews that even HP does have a clue where it would be hidden after it has been installed. Their documentation ask you to do a search on your local drives using WinDO$ search command. And it ain’t on the installation disc nor the downloaded driver installation either. Single user direct hook up works, but just can’t install it as a network printer as the driver remains elusive. The shop will have HP and Level One people look at the situation. And the Level One print server specifically stated it could be used for HP Multifunction Printers!
While working out how to install the Level One print server, I figured it could be my first generation Linksys wireless router that is preventing the print server from recognizing the printer. So I went ahead and downloaded the latest firmware for the router. The firmware installation went successfully, but then it just wouldn’t log back into the Internet! I tried unplugging the modem and the router, reseting the router, went through all the router setup, reset to factory settings, rebooting the computer, unplugging everything and plugging back in. Nothing worked. Took a dump and came back…, reset the power on the router for the 4th time and waited…. CONNECTED! Go figure! I must have been too full of it.
Too tired to look at the print server problem now.
I still have to decide on a laser printer for work, a new sofa to replace the old worn one, a coffee table for Powerbooking in front of the projection TV, a LCD or a Notebook for Alec which could wait for he has been a brat playing too much online games and ignoring his studies despite some spanking, a 15 year WA gift, a new set of tires to replace the worn ones soon…
Ahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
