If you like Picasa, just keep using it. It’s not like you swapped your Wintel machine w/ a Mac. Your Mac will happily mount the Windows shared directory.
I think it is just us WindO$ users’ problem as we are too used to the directory structure; but when iPhoto can’t display what’s in the folders until they have been imported, I feel very unease about it. Unless I have overlooked such a function. iPhoto also ignored all my Nikon NEF files during import. Whereas Picasa simply does everything automatically. Adding keywords in iPhoto is also not as simple as Picasa.
