La Salle School Song

There was a RTHK 4 radio program on-air just now featuring the music teacher (presumably) and several La Salle Primary School students from the school’s music program. While I was only able to catch the performance of just one of the students who was playing a piece with a Gu Zheng, his performance was simply stunning! With absolutely no clue of being a teen/pre-teen player.

Toward the end of the program, before they played a recording of the School Song, the program host asked if they knew who the author was. While they know the Chinese lyrics was written by the late Hong Kong artist/songwriter, James Wong, who was an old boy himself, not even the teacher knew who wrote the original English version. Here is a piece of history of the La Salle School Song from the La Salle Old Boys Association webpage. The lyrics was written by Brother Marcian James (1869 – 1938).
