Where Am I?

It’s been a while since I have blogged. A lot has been going on lately and have been keeping me busy. Generally, it’s been fun and enjoyable.

First of all, I have been sitting in a course at the Chinese University. The course is Hong Kong and Macau Archaeology. Which is something that I have been interested in general. There have been a couple of field trips with one of which is not directly associated with the course. I took some photos which I have yet to find the time to post process and post.

I have also bought a couple of gadgets so far this month with another one on order. Namely a Mavizen MyBlu iPod remote with Bluetooth for cellphone, a Softbank X01HT PPC cellphone (which is just a variant of the Dopod 838Pro/HTC TyTN) with a Holux M-1000 Bluetooth GPS module, and an Aliph Jawbone Bluetooth headset that I have reported earlier. So I am busy testing them out. Hopefully I’ll be able to report them here one by one soon.

Incidentally, I am typing this blog out directly with the Softbank PPC via a Wi-Fi connection. It does take some getting used to but the screen is quite good. I think I would skip putting the hyperlinks in until I get back to my real computer though.

Anyway more about them later.

Looking for your user report, especially the PPC + GPS module, as I am thinking about the GERMIN 60CSX.

But I can’t understand why you need so many Blue Tooth handfree.

    Good for you!

I also considered to change to a pda phone last week, and the softbank is really attractive at it’s price range (I can get it even cheaper than street price). Yet, I want a pda with built-in GPS.

Smartone has an special offer of the Dopod 810 to users, selling 3,600 something only. I am a smartone user, very attractive. But the offer needs an Heng Seng Bank credit card. I don’t have it.

At the end, I just buy a Samsung E258 parallel imported phone. 1,100. Still very happy.

The reason that I am having so many Bluetooh headset is that the first one I ever use was rather cheap and therefore it doesn’t cut out much background noice for the other end to be able to hear me well enough especially in noisy places. It also doesn’t put out a loud enough sound for me to hear the other end. Another problem with these single function headset is that when I listen to my iPod I would not be able to hear the phone ring. Plus even if I did, I would either have to switch earphones or use the handset. Rather clumsy. A walkman phone would do, you say? Who are we kidding? I don’t listen to the same 30 sounds over and over again. The MyBlu iPod remote Bluetooth headset took care of this problem. Plus it uses the iPod to amplifies the sound. However, the major draw back with it is that it must use the iPod to power it. When I am not listening to the iPod I would need a different headset.

The Aliph Jawbone should allow me to talk in the noisiest places like those bitches who yell out their conversations in an otherwise rather quiet KRC rail.

As for the GPS, get the Garmin if you straightly want track recording. However, a PDA/GPS combo would be more multi purpose as well as better for route guiding and navigation assisting especially for driving.

I also like the Dopod 810 for it’s smaller size but I prefer one with a tactile QWERTY keyboard. A dedicated GPS module is also much more sensitive for metro navigation than those built-in ones.

PS I can’t keep my hands off of the Softbank PDA. I just type the above comment with it in bed! Before I could find a spell-checker, there might be tons of typos. Sorry. :)

You really can’t hand-off your PDA as I noticed you post the comment at 4:00 AM.
