I can’t help but wonder when people put “([name] is) very boring” in their Facebook status field, do they really mean by that or do they actually mean “very bored”?
In Cantonese, “我很悶” splat into 3 separate English words might be “I”, “very”, “bore”. Whereas in English, “I am very boring” (or, I am a bore) means “我係大悶蛋” while “I am very bored” means “我很悶”.
Having said that, I’m afraid I might have just revealed that I am a bore.
Indeed, I am a boring person. In my household the four of us are all pretty boring, so I suspect that most people are actually boring.
So yeah, those folks who put “very boring” in their Facebook are probably correct.
Yeah, I would imagine those who resorted to sending virtual gifts on Facebook for a while and then realized that’s actually nowhere near as thrilling as sending/receiving the real thing but can’t exactly afford to do so would become even more bored and thus become even more of a bore.
I am guilty as charged myself, ha! ^_^
P.S. It is one thing being a bore, but it’s another when one actually announced it though. That’s like a suicide note.
