iPhone 3G is in

and the 2G is officially RIP.

At USD$199, I ‘envy’ those who had paid could afford over HKD$4K for the cracked 2G model against my advise, and couldn’t help but laughing wondering WTF that newly announced dealership of the 2G model by 3 for the HK and Macau market was all about.

Although Apple has switched the 3G model back to their usual selling outlets as with all other Apple products, ie screwing all the local gray marketeers, the 3G model is on the HK Apple online shop without a price and looks like they are not taking orders at this moment. That means one can still get the closed to HKD$5K 2G model from HKSincere and pretend to be the coolest dude for awhile still.

Unlike the 2G model, I am able to find one or two great features on the iPhone 3G though; talk time in 3G mode (only manual switching, no auto hanging switching between 2G/3G for this phone) is a whopping 5hrs at a great USD listed price!

Which reminds me, perhaps a Whopper for lunch today or very soon. Yum. :-P

Oh!  Ah…. one more thing…

This iPhone 3G is like an iPod Touch at about HKD$800 less with a free 3G phone attached albeit without a video call camera … Sounds GREAT to me!

LCD TV

At 10000:1 contrast ratio, 4ms response time, 1080p resolution but running at 1080i through the oldish Cambridge Audio DVD HDMI output, and 450cd/m2 Brightness, the Sharp AQUOS LC-46P7H Full HD 46″ LCD TV gives a great VCD image and average TV image. I haven’t tested it with a DVD disc yet. Image size is about 1/2 or even less than my projected image from the digital projector. The biggest difference would be watching a panavision or 2.33:1 aspect ration image. The height of such an image is about the same as my 14″ CRT! At 4:3, it is slightly bigger than my old 29″ 4:3 Grundig CRT. Considering the Grundig cost just over $10K, this LCD panel is about the minimum size price ratio as I am willing to spend.

Color-wise it’s typical Japanese - too saturated but nothing the adjustment couldn’t handle. 4:3 image converted to 16:9 aspect distortion is better expected. There is no S-Video connection but not too important nowadays.

TV quality is just as poor as most LCD panels that I have seen. Originally, I was thinking of putting the panel more away from the wall where the screen for the projector is to make up for the lost image size but the “digitized” image looked like being shot from Southpark. I had to put it back about 2ft making the front of the panel about 10″ from the wall to get a decent image. So much for that 4H (viewing distance to be 4x the height of the image) theory which I think applies better to projected image than LCD panels. I would say around 6H is more like it.

While more testing is needed, I standby my recommendation of digital projector for the higher image quality.

Once again, just as I had predicted…

Studios backing HD DVD could soon switch sides to Blu-ray

“Is Mother Proud of Little Boy Today”

Enola Gay

by Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark

Enola Gay,
you should have stayed at home yesterday
Aha words can’t describe the feeling and the way you lied

These games you play, they’re gonna end in more than tears someday
Aha Enola Gay, it shouldn’t ever have to end this way

It’s 8:15, and that’s the time that it’s always been
We got your message on the radio, conditions normal and you’re coming home

Enola Gay, is mother proud of Little Boy today
Aha this kiss you give, it’s never ever gonna fade away

Enola Gay, it shouldn’t ever have to end this way
Aha Enola Gay, it shouldn’t fade in our dreams away

It’s 8:15, and that’s the time that it’s always been
We got your message on the radio, conditions normal and you’re coming home

Enola Gay, is mother proud of Little Boy today
Aha this kiss you give, it’s never ever gonna fade away

Another William Hung?

Who is he?…

And the winner is….

Never Again

I seldom listen to rock in the past decade or more now but this one is performed quite well. It is “Pat Benatar” well. Here is the lyrics…

Never Again
by Kelly Clarkson

I hope the ring you gave to her
Turned her finger green
I hope when you’re in bed with her
You think of me
I would never wish bad things
But I don’t wish you well
Could you tell
By the flames that burned your words
I never read your letter
Cause I knew what you’d say
Give me that Sunday school answer
Try to make it all okay

Does it hurt
To know ill never be there
bet it sucks
to see my face everywhere
It was you
Who chose to end it like you did
I was the last to know
You knew
Exactly what you would do
Don’t say
You simply lost your way
She may believe you
But I never will
Never again

If she really knows the truth
She deserves you
A trophy wife
Oh how cute
Ignorance is bliss
But when your day comes
And he’s through with you
And he’ll be through with you
You’ll die together but alone
You wrote me in a letter
You couldn’t say it right to my face
Give me that Sunday school answer
Repent yourself away

Does it hurt
To know ill never be there
Bet it sucks to see my face everywhere
It was you
Who chose to end it like you did
I was the last to know
You knew
Exactly what you would do
And don’t say
You simply lost your way
They may believe you
But I never will
Never again

Never again will I hear you
Never again will I miss you
Never again will I fall to you
Never
Never again will I kiss you
Never again will I want to
Never again will I love you
Never!

Does it hurt
To know ill never be there
Bet it sucks to see my face everywhere
It was you
Who chose to end it like you did
I was the last to know
You knew
Exactly what you would do
Don’t say
You simply lost your way
They may believe you
But I never will
I never Will
I never will
Never again

潮騷 - 五輪真弓

Hey Lisa

Don’t kid yourself. Despite your diligent effort, you can’t sing. Ever. Your MV is a nightly agony. Stick to acting.

BoA

A 20 years old Korean artist. Her latest concert DVD - DoA the Live.

I have never bought any of her CDs or DVDs. The only recollection of her performance were glimpses on TV which showed her as a very talented and energetic dancer singer. Since this DVD is a Japanese code 2 edition everything was printed in Japanese. To be honest, I had no idea what’s in it and I was expecting a good dancing performance with an average rock singing voice.

As it turned out, it is in a jazzy soft rock style (I should have guessed with the familiar English song titles). There were hardly any dancing by BoA herself but instead, and to my biggest surprise, she just sat there for several songs and just sang away with a few slow songs! She was really showing her excellent singing talent which her much faster rock songs never revealed! A true vocalist. Perhaps she is changing her style I don’t know, as I am not familiar with her previous songs and performances but it is all for the better.
